HOW Longarm Quilting Pricing WORKS at starshine

Every quilt is a little different, but understanding the cost of quilting shouldn't be complicated.

Computerized edge-to-edge quilting is priced primarily by the size of your quilt and the density of the quilting design you choose. Quilt size is calculated by multiplying the quilt's width by its length to determine the total square inches.

Quilt width × quilt length × quilting rate = estimated quilting price

Because some quilting designs require considerably more stitching than others, Starshine groups designs into four easy-to-understand density categories: Light, Moderate, Dense, and Very Dense.

Choosing a Quilting Density

Density describes how closely the quilting lines are stitched across your quilt. It affects the finished appearance and texture of the quilt as well as the amount of stitching and machine time required.

You don't need to determine the density yourself. Each design in the Starshine Quilting Design Gallery is evaluated so I can help you understand where it falls and what it will cost on your quilt.:

Light Quilting: Open, airy quilting with plenty of space between stitched lines.

Moderate quilting: Balanced coverage and texture for an everyday quilt.

Dense quilting: Closer quilting with greater texture and definition.

Very Dense quilting: High stitch coverage with pronounced quilting texture.

Why Is There a Range Within Each Density?

Not every design within a density category requires exactly the same amount of stitching.

Starshine evaluates each quilting design based on the amount of stitching required at an appropriate scale. That allows designs to be priced more accurately while still giving you four simple categories to use when comparing your options.

The exact rate for the design you select will be included in your estimate and confirmed before quilting begins.

Not Sure Which Density to Choose?

That's completely fine.

Density is only one part of choosing a quilting design. Your quilt pattern, fabrics, intended use, batting, and the amount of texture you want can all influence the decision.

If you’re not sure, I’ll be happy to help you compare the options and choose quilting that complements your quilt, gives you the look you want, and fits your budget.
