Every quilt tells a story.

Some celebrate a wedding or the arrival of a new baby. Others honor a loved one, commemorate a special event, or simply reflect the joy of creating something beautiful with your own hands.

Whatever story your quilt tells, it deserves quilting that complements your piecing and finishes it with care.

That’s the privilege—and the responsibility—I bring to every quilt that comes through my studio.

My love of sewing began when I was twelve years old, sitting beside my grandmother at her Singer Featherweight. She loved to sew, and before long, so did I.

Nana taught me that making something with your own hands is one of life’s quiet joys. It’s a lesson I’ve carried with me ever since.

Like many quilters, I started with a beginner project. Mine was a log cabin quilt from Eleanor Burns’ classic Quilt in a Day. I still remember the satisfaction of stitching that final seam and completing my first quilt.

That feeling has never really gone away.

Over the years, I’ve come to believe that quilting is much more than the final step in the process.

The quilt top is already beautiful.

The right quilting design enhances the piecing, adds texture and movement, and gives the quilt its finished character.

My goal isn’t to take attention away from your quilt. It’s to complement it—so the finished quilt looks as though the piecing and quilting were always meant to be together.

That’s the result I’m working toward with every quilt entrusted to me.

Looking back, every step of my career prepared me for Starshine Quilting Studio.

As a manager at JoAnn Fabrics, I spent years surrounded by people who loved to create. I learned that every project has a story—and that listening is often just as important as offering advice.

After JoAnn, I spent more than twenty years in information technology.

Those habits became second nature, and they’ve proven to be every bit as valuable in longarm quilting as they were in technology.

Retirement gave me the opportunity to bring these two worlds together. Starshine Quilting Studio lets me combine creativity with technology—quilting with just a little bit of geekery.

In 2023, I invested in an INNOVA computerized longarm quilting system because I wanted equipment capable of producing consistently beautiful results.

Combined with professional quilting software, it provides the precision needed to stitch intricate designs accurately and consistently.

Just as important, I continue investing in my own education.

I’m a proud member of the Longarm League, a professional community founded by nationally recognized longarm quilter Jess Ziegler. Through its Rookie Season program and active member community, I’ve continued developing my skills while learning from experienced professionals across the country.
